Some games require activation, and it might start downloading soon after the activation is over.Try starting Steam in offline mode and then launch the game - and see if it works If you have the actual disc, or a Steam backup disc, then yes.
Please check for Programs Which Interfere with Steam.
If the issue persists, you may have issues with your local Steam files.
You may refresh these files without deleting your game files.
I would like to pause a download on steam, however when I right click on the game, there is no option to 'Pause Downloading'.
Note that I don't wish to delete it, just pause it. Instead of viewing the games through your "Installed" or "All" games dropdown, select "Downloads" where you can manage all downloads Steam is performing.
Here you can pause and resume or reorder any active or pending downloads.
Additionally, launching a Steam game will, by default, pause all current downloads.
FYI, on Windows, if you alt+tab out of the game and go back to the Steam client, you can unpause the download if you like, and then go play your game.
Steam will then download in the background while you play.
Is is possible to install a steam game and then play it without having to download a huge update file?
I'm temporally on super slow broadband at my parents and want to play a game I got now, not in 10hours :-/ Thanks Answer would be - it depends.
